Join Us At Mexico Forum On Pet Food 2017

Join AFB at the seventh annual Mexico Forum on Pet Food, June 15 and 16, 2017, in Guadalajara, Mexico. Our AFB team from around the world will be among the pet food industry professionals exhibiting and discussing industry trends in Mexico.

The pet food market is growing in Mexico with pet ownership increasing. These pets are now treated like family, driving prepared pet food sales. According to 2016 Euromonitor International data, 41% of total households had a dog, while 16% had a cat. In current value terms, dog food and cat food sales increased by 8% and 9% respectively in 2016. That growth is expected to continue steadily, fueling increased interest by pet food manufacturers in the Mexico market.

Key Mexico pet trends to watch and explore include:

  • Premium and super premium food. Entering the Mexico market are more foods targeted to specific pet segments, such as pet age, size and breed. Also on the rise are foods formulated with only natural ingredients or promoting specific health aspects, such as weight control or immune system support.
  • Wet pet foods. Related to the movement toward more premium foods in the Mexico market, wet pet foods for both dogs and cats saw faster growth than dry food. This trend is predicted to continue, especially for wet pet food in pouches.
  • Treats. Sales of both dog treats and cat treats increased in 2016 and look to be a strong market segment going forward.
