This spring and summer, AFB International successfully participated in four leading pet industry tradeshows and expos around the world. Each event provided unique opportunities for AFB colleagues to connect with customers, vendors and key industry contacts by showcasing the company’s latest offerings, research and industry palatability leadership.
A special thank you to our many worldwide colleagues who helped to make each event a success. Pictured above: AFB Global Sales Team, with our US, The Netherlands and Asia/Pacific teams represented.
PET FOOD FORUM 2018, APRIL 23 – 25
KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI
The annual Pet Food Forum once again attracted international attendees and provided many opportunities for AFB to connect with customers and key industry leaders. Booth visitors were able to interact with our Global Sales Team while also raising money for a local Humane Society with the popular ‘Play for Pets’ game. AFB also participated in the Forum’s ‘Petfood Innovation Workshop’ and used a fun spin on the popular game Cards Against Humanity to engage approximately 180 participants in a lively and entertaining discussion on pet food flavor validation.
Additionally, AFB’s Senior Technical Sales and Service Manager, Kristopher Figge, presented AFB’s research on the effect kibble size (diameter) has on canine palatability. “Poster sessions” were also held by AFB representatives on two topics: addressing fat quality and its impact on palatability, and exploring observed dog feeding style differences.
INTERZOO 2018, MAY 8 – 11
Interzoo 2018 featured nearly 2,000 exhibitors from around the world, including pet food, ingredients, toys, services, equipment and other companies. AFB provided booth visitors with information on our research on the future of pet food market segmentation and how it impacts palatability needs. Conversations with customers confirmed that while different countries and regions experience varied market trends, pet food buyers worldwide have increasing expectations about their pets’ positive engagement with their food.
Key takeaways from AFB team members at Interzoo included:
- Pet food brands that focused on sustainability, authentic ingredients, enhanced premium offerings and “lifestyle” foods received the greatest buzz during the show.
- Natural or natural-variant claims are so prevalent (from food and treats) that they are not a unique selling point for most pet food brands.
XVII CONGRESSO CBNA PET 2018, MAY 15 - 17
SAO PAULO, BRAZIL
Featuring over 130 exhibitors and 4,200 participants, AFB connected with Latin American customers and key members of the pet food industry as an exhibitor and also by hosting a Technology Workshop. Held in partnership with Maverick, a division of Wenger, the Workshop featured presentations on palatant application, palatability tests and pet food processes.
The workshop also provided insights into customer needs and discussions on ways AFB can best assist them.
MEXICO EXPO 2018, MAY 31 – JUNE 1
The pet food market in Mexico has been experiencing impressive growth in 2018, and the Mexico Expo provided an important opportunity for AFB to demonstrate its industry leadership and support in the region’s pet food marketplace.
Our presence at the Expo allowed us to engage customers in conversations on how to distinguish and develop their pet food products into industry leaders. Our AFB team provided information the role of palatants and how and when they’re applied, helping to demonstrate AFB’s dedication to service and building client relationships.
PET FOOD FORUM CHINA 2018, AUGUST 21
Kristopher Figge will present AFB’s new kibble size and canine palatability research at the upcoming Pet Food Forum China, providing analytical data on why dogs prefer larger kibble vs. small kibble.
